Jarrett Edmund (He/They) is a visual artist based in Moh'kins'tsis, Treaty 7 Territory (Calgary AB).

Jarrett is a self-starter, beginning their career as an independent journalist in local and international publications. Over the past decade, they have covered over 30 international music festivals, including the Sasquatch! Music Festival in Washington state, South By Southwest in Texas, Oregon’s Pickathon, as well as local staples Sled Island and the Calgary Folk Fest. Their focus on community building and interdisciplinarity has led to a number of projects with fellow creatives and arts organizations.

Jarrett is an experimental multimedia artist who utilizes techniques in analog film manipulation to evoke surrealist imagery. They are passionate about stretching the film medium through abstract aestheticism, commenting on poignant sociological and political issues in a contemporary Canadian landscape. Jarrett’s concert photography takes an idiomatic approach to the genre, utilizing visual sound representation and vibrant colour to elicit a multi-sensory visual experience.

Their work has appeared in the Calgary Herald, Avenue Magazine, She Shreds, CBC and more. Their creative work has also been published in numerous independent magazines including NEKTR, Perspectives, and Alter Analog. Jarrett is currently open to new opportunities and both local and international collaborations.

Jarrett is currently employed by the Calgary Folk Music Festival as their Digital Content Manager.

“Jarrett is always a delight to work with. They bring care and attention to detail to everything they capture for our events, and provide critical ideas in their photography that help lead to the growth of our organization. Not only are they a leading talent in local photography, but their love and compassion makes them an integral part of our festival and allows us to continue providing space for marginalized and underrepresented folks.” — Kaely Cormack, Femme Wave Founder

“Being around Jarrett always makes me feel super comfortable, safe, and confident. He is gentle and trustworthy in nature, particularly around sensitive issues or topics. He cares about his projects with deep passion and when collaborating, I always feel he is equally invested in my unique artistic visions and goals. He is patient, very well organized, and thoroughly plans out shoots. Additionally, Jarrett is also open to exploration/experimentation and always goes the extra mile when it comes to seeing a concept through. He has experience, a gifted eye, a knack for capturing brilliant candid moments and the genuine spirit of his subjects. He invests a lot of time creating stunning edits via custom filters and colours. Overall, Jarrett is an absolute joy to work with and I look forward to many more photoshoots!” Justine Giles, Singer-Songwriter

“Working with Jarrett was so much more than just a photo shoot. There are a lot of photographers that can capture the who, what, where, and when. But Jarrett has a way of capturing the why. He took the time to listen to my vision and then capture it. I highly recommend his work to anyone who wants more than just a picture.” — Ryan Langlois, 2018 Project Wild Runner-Up

“Literally one of the best photographers/ creatives in the city. He put the time and care into making sure that each project he works on is exactly what the client envisions. Super talented, makes clients feel very comfortable and highly skilled. Wouldn't want to get photos from anyone else” — Michela Sheedy, Country Artist

“What sets apart J. Edmund Photography is Jarrett's connection with people and his ability to understand their values and style, whether it's a couple tying the knot or a team producing a festival. He takes time to learn about what matters to the folks he works with and translates that into stunning, personal, and evocative photos. It could be the first dance, an artist on stage, or audience members in the crowd, Jarrett always captures magic, intimate moments others might miss. Not only that, Jarrett uses his professional network and strong reputation to support other emerging artists, so when you hire him, you know you are contributing to a wider community of young photographers. Work with J. Edmund Photography whenever you can.” — Steph Perrin, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion specialist
